First Steps
The First Steps initiative allows clients to earn much-needed baby supplies by participating in video-based classes. As they participate, clients earn “Mommy Money” they can use in our on-site baby boutique, First Things.
Our PREP classes are designed to help clients prepare for their new baby and life as a mother. Next, clients transition to GROW classes to help them learn and grow as a mom. At each appointment, a volunteer or staff member takes the time to talk through any questions or issues they may have, thus offering emotional and personal support.
Finally, clients can participate in our THRIVE group classes. They provide the opportunity for moms to learn together and build community with others mom who are in a similar season of life.
First Steps is a win/win program: low-income moms are getting the material support they need, and they are getting the education, skills, and information they need to become good moms. Clients gain a sense of self-worth as they truly earn all the baby items they will use for their new baby. Clients can participate as soon as they find out their pregnant, all the way until their child is two years of age. Most clients come once a week and are scheduled at their convenience. We love the opportunity this initiative gives for us to build long-term relationships with our moms.
